Leather Storage Ottoman

When you have a toddler, practical design solutions come into play pretty quickly. We had a large square coffee table that was bulky, heavy, and just an accident waiting to happen. Olive fell and hit her chin on it once and bit her tongue open when she was about 15 months old and I have been forever living in fear it would happen again. So, for TWO years I’ve been in search of something cozy, soft, but can still be used to prop up our feet and set a drink or two on…because let’s be real, that’s how we live. I searched for cocktail ottomans all over the internet and locally and we could not find one that was in our cheap budget and that we both loved. I almost started to make something myself but found a leather storage ottoman on Etsy that was perfect.

This storage ottoman is a handmade shell that is sent to you and then you stuff it yourself. Buying it not stuffed kept the cost of manufacturing and delivery down to a reasonable price and we were able to afford the large size we really wanted.

Leather Ottoman details

  • The size of our ottoman is 40inchx40inchx16inch

  • It is handmade in Marrakesh, Morocco

  • Shipping was fast, but allow time for them to handmake

  • Arrives folded flat and unstuffed

  • We filled our ottoman with items taking up space in our hall closets but do not use regularly such as family quilts in plastic bags, extra sheet sets, seasonal pillows, and some old clothes and scarves.

  • There is a large zipper across the bottom to access the storage space.

  • We use a metal tray to set our drinks. Spills are no biggie as long as we wipe them in a reasonable timeframe. Leather just doesn’t like standing liquid.

The ottoman after. So much safer, much more cozy, and still functional with some style. I love the little lacing detail down one of the corners.

The corners are a little tricky to stuff. You could get some foam stuffing or filler from Hobby Lobby or your local craft store, but I rolled up some old scarves and shoved them in the corners. It filled pretty nice. This pic is BEFORE I stuffed the…

The reasons we had to make design changes, but so grateful.
